Terms of service
1. About this site
These terms cover How to Raise Venture Capital, the online book by Aaron Harris at book.magidandco.com (the “Site”), operated by Magid and Company, LLC (“Magid,” “we,” or “us”). Accessing the Site means accepting these terms. If you disagree, please stop using it.
Reading the book requires no account or payment. The Site provides chapters, illustrations, navigation, search, and links to related resources. Newsletter subscriptions take place separately on Postround.
2. Information, not advice
The book discusses fundraising strategy and reflects the author’s experience and opinions. It cannot assess your company, financial position, jurisdiction, or particular transaction. Examples and historical outcomes do not promise that you will raise capital or achieve a similar result. Chapters may be updated as the book develops.
Material on this Site is informational and is not investment, tax, or legal advice or an offer to transact in securities. Consult your own qualified advisors. Securities are offered through Finalis Securities LLC, member FINRA/SIPC. Magid and Company and Finalis Securities LLC are separate unaffiliated entities. See our Disclosure for more detail.
3. Content and permitted use
Content belongs to Magid or its licensors. You may read it for personal or internal business use and share links to chapters. Republishing, selling, bulk extracting, or using it to train AI models requires our written permission, except where law permits. Do not attack the Site or bypass its protections.
4. Other websites
Links to Postround, Magid & Co, The Venture Codex, and other resources take you to separate websites. Their terms govern your activities there. Visiting the book does not subscribe you to a newsletter, create an account on another service, or authorize a payment.
5. Availability and responsibility
We provide the Site as available, without warranties of accuracy, completeness, or uninterrupted access. To the extent law allows, liability is capped at US $100, and indirect losses, including lost profits or data, are excluded. You agree to indemnify Magid and Finalis against third-party claims resulting from your unlawful use or breach of these terms. Mandatory legal rights remain unaffected.
6. Disputes and updates
New York law governs. Where enforceable, disputes are resolved individually through binding arbitration in New York City, with no class or representative proceedings. We may revise these terms; the date above identifies the current version. Changes apply prospectively.
Privacy policy
1. Scope and notice at collection
This policy explains how Magid handles information associated with this book Site. It covers reading, navigation, and interactions here. It does not cover your use of separate services after following an external link. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
2. Information associated with your visit
Site delivery. Hosting infrastructure processes technical request information, including IP addresses and browser information, to deliver pages and help protect the Site.
Usage analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics for page views and interactions. Analytics can include page URLs, referrers, visit times, device and browser information, and approximate location. Vercel describes its analytics as aggregated and without third-party cookies; its temporary visitor identifier is discarded after 24 hours. Read Vercel’s analytics privacy documentation.
We also measure actions such as opening a chapter, spending 30 seconds reading, clicking a hero illustration, and following a Subscribe link. These events can include the chapter or page and the landing-page version shown to you. Our event code does not request your name or email address.
Communications. If you email us, we receive your address and the information you choose to send. Please avoid including confidential financial or sensitive personal information.
3. Cookies and storage on your device
A first-party cookie remembers which landing-page hero you see for up to 90 days, so we can compare the two designs. Browser local storage remembers the last chapter you opened. Session storage prevents repeated reading and engagement events within the same browser session. Search runs locally in your browser; the Site does not send your search text to a search service.
You can remove these preferences by clearing this Site’s cookies and browser storage, or block storage through browser settings. Clearing them resets the remembered chapter and landing-page version.
4. Newsletter subscriptions
Subscribe links open Postround on Substack. This Site does not collect or submit an email address for signup. If you subscribe there, Substack handles the information you provide under its own policies. Manage that subscription or unsubscribe through Postround or the links in its emails.
5. Use and disclosure
We use information to operate and secure the Site, improve the reading experience, understand readership, and answer communications. Hosting, analytics, and communications providers process information for those purposes. We may disclose information when legally required, to protect rights or safety, or in a business transfer. The Site has no public user profiles, account registration, or Google Calendar or Contacts connection.
6. Retention and security
Information is retained as needed for operations, responding to requests, legal obligations, and protecting rights. Device storage follows the periods and controls described above; the last-chapter preference remains until you clear it or your browser removes it. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online system is completely secure.
7. Your privacy choices
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information, or object to or restrict certain processing. California residents may exercise applicable privacy rights without discrimination. Email us to make a request; we may verify identity and apply legal exceptions. We cannot always link aggregated analytics to an individual visitor.
Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. This Site is written for founders and is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has sent us personal information.
8. Updates
We will revise this page when practices change and update the date above. Please check it periodically for the current policy.
